Session 3C: The Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention: Intervening Early to Promote Recovery in Children and their Caregivers
View WorkshopOverview
This workshop will describe the Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI), a brief, trauma-focused evidence-based treatment that was developed to strengthen and capitalize on the significant role that caregivers can play in helping children recover from traumatic events. Careful assessment of both the child’s and adult’s traumatic reactions, history and post-event adaptations has been central to improving outcomes not only for children but for their caregivers as well. In addition to describing the model, the presentation will explore the conceptual basis for the important role that caregivers play in their children’s recovery as well as report findings that demonstrate the clinically significant reductions in caregivers’ post-traumatic symptomatology following their participation in the CFTSI model.

Learn MoreOverview
Our 2018 conference keynote speaker, Sasha Joseph Neulinger releases his documentary REWIND.
In his candid personal memoir, Sasha Joseph Neulinger revisits his childhood and the events that tore apart his seemingly-perfect world. For as long as Neulinger can remember, his father was constantly filming— from birthday parties, to hockey games, to holidays. But his camera, trained on the frequent gatherings of a tight-knit family, was also documenting a hidden secret, the revelation of which would lead to a media firestorm, a high-stakes court battle, and a generational reckoning.
Drawing upon an incredibly revealing home video archive, Neulinger revisits these events 20 years later to piece together an unflinching story of the cycles and consequences of abuse, to examine what it means to heal, and to use those experiences to effect positive change in the world. REWIND probes the gap between image and reality and proves just how little, and how much, a camera can capture.
